We recently shared that as of January 1, 2025, Mutual Savings Credit Union has officially joined APCO Employees Credit Union following an overwhelmingly positive merger vote. Together, we’ve rebranded as Southern Energy Credit Union. This new name reflects our shared growth and ongoing commitment to serving Southern Company employees and their families.
What This Means For You
- Same Accounts & Services: You’ll continue using your Mutual Savings accounts, cards, and digital banking services without any changes or interruptions. Your access to your local branch and familiar staff remains the same.
- More Access: You’ll soon benefit from additional branches across Alabama, Georgia, and Mississippi. You’ll also enjoy continued access to over 5,600 shared branches and 30,000 surcharge-free ATMs nationwide.
- Federally Insured Accounts: Your accounts remain federally insured through the National Credit Union Share Insurance Fund, backed by the full faith and credit of the U.S. government.
In the coming months, you’ll hear from us with more details on what’s to come as we work to create a seamless integration of your accounts. Our goal is to allow you to continue conducting business as usual with as little interruption as possible.

What will happen to my Mutual Savings accounts?
For now, you will continue to use your Mutual Savings account(s) and associated services (such as your credit card, debit card, and electronic banking services) the same as you do now. You will continue to be able to access the branch and same great staff, just as you do now.
You will receive detailed information about your account transition as we begin to integrate your accounts. We will work diligently to create a seamless integration of your accounts. Our goal is to allow you to continue conducting business as usual with as little interruption as possible.
Will the current branch at Southern Company Gas remain open?
Yes, the branch inside Southern Company Gas (10 Peachtree Place, NE, Atlanta, GA 30309) will remain open, and you will continue to work with the same great staff as you do now.
Will my accounts continue to be insured?
Your accounts will continue to be federally insured just as they are today through the National Credit Union Share Insurance Fund, which is backed by the full faith and credit of the U.S. Government and managed by the National Credit Union Administration (NCUA).
Now that the merger is officially approved, can I conduct transactions at other Southern Energy Credit Union branches?
Southern Energy Credit Union participates in the CO-OP Shared Branch Network. This means you can visit many Southern Energy branches to conveniently access your accounts to make deposits or withdrawals and even transfer funds. You will receive information when all Southern Energy branches are available for full account access.
Why did APCO Employees Credit Union change its name to Southern Energy Credit Union?
After recently merging Mutual Savings Credit Union and Powerco Federal Credit Union into APCO, APCO now serve members in branches across Alabama, Georgia and Mississippi. Our new name, Southern Energy Credit Union, reflects this growth, our expanded footprint, and our ongoing commitment to powering the financial success of Southern Company employees and their families.
